Brit Vitalius, Principal of Vitalius Real Estate Group and President of the Rental Housing Alliance, appeared on Maine Calling in their ongoing series, “The Cost of Living: Maine’s Housing Shortage,” as part of a panel discussion highlighting the challenges facing renters in Maine. Brit was joined by Victoria Morales, Executive Director of The Quality Housing Coalition and Mike Myatt, Executive Director of Bangor Housing.
Brit shared his thoughts on some of the contributing factors of the housing crisis, both locally and nationally, noting the complexity of housing development issues, "that varies greatly at the municipality level as it pertains to zoning, the cost of development and the community's appetite for new housing projects. Most real estate professionals are trying to create housing amidst challenges with local ordinances and gaining community support. Maine’s unique issue centers around the influx of folks seeking a better quality of life that the state offers, which is in direct opposition of communities who want to keep the status quo. Growth requires changes and that includes more housing in our communities."
Brit, who has worked in the housing space for over 20 years and has a deep understanding of market trends, understands the impact and frustration communities express but recognizes the critical need for more housing to ease demand which would eventually create a less volatile market.
