It’s been a challenging few years in the rental housing market. The reality is there is simply not enough housing inventory available to meet the needs.
Brit Vitalius is both a landlord and broker in the multi-family market. In those roles, and as President of the Southern Maine Landlord Association (now the RHA) for the last 15 years, he has been at the intersection of community debate about how to address housing issues.
The conversations are not easy nor are the solutions simple, but putting in the effort to improve and provide safe housing for tenants is rewarding. To that point, we are pleased to share this note Brit received from a family member of a long-time tenant of Brit’s who passed away:
Dear Brit,
I have been meaning to send you a note since my brother passed away. Sorry it has taken me so long. My brother and I want to thank you for allowing our brother to live in your apartment building for so many years. We are so sorry that he was not able to maintain it as he should have. His traumatic brain injury prevented that. We appreciate your kindness and compassion for letting him live there. He was having difficulty with his mobility but the Hanover apartment was the only place he wanted to be. Thank you for making that possible.
